There are four types of decisions you can view below:

Court judgments

If an organisation is unhappy with a decision we have made about them, and we cannot resolve the situation together, they have the option to lodge an appeal with the Registrar of the High Court (and from there, to the Court of Appeal). We publish court judgments under the Charities Act 2005 to our website as soon as possible after we receive them.

Deregistration decisions

A registered charitable entity may be removed from the Register (deregistered) for various reasons. Charities Services has the authority to deregister a charity that: no longer meets the requirements for registration; has acted in a way that is considered to be "serious wrongdoing"; or has "significantly and persistently" failed to comply with the Act.

Register or decline

Charities Services is keen to provide helpful information for the charitable sector and for the wider public to help develop greater understanding of what is meant — in law — by charitable purpose, and why Charities Services has registered or declined to register some applications.

Disqualification orders

Charities Services has powers to make orders that prevent a deregistered charity from registering again for a set length of time, and to prevent an officer of that deregistered charity from being an officer of any registered charity for a period not exceeding five years.

Case reports

Most of Charities Services decisions are made before a formal legal decision is made by the Charities Registration Board or courts. In significant investigations of wrongdoing and reviews of eligibility for registration, Charities Services publishes case reports which describe the review or investigation, and then explain the learnings for the wider sector.
